In recent posts, we have covered the potential wellness outcomes of infrared saunas. We have discussed detoxification, skin health and pain relief. Today, we are going to delve deeper into weight loss.
How can a sauna help you drop weight?
First of all, infrared sauna therapy must be practiced to see change. Being consistent with your sessions is the best way to see great results.
The key ingredient of sauna weight loss is a new technology called Solocarbon™ heating. This provides a blend of 3-in-1 infrared wavelengths based on over 56 research studies!
Stepping back. Here is an explanation of near, mid and far wavelengths (and the potential benefits of each).
Sunlighten’s mPulse sauna has a weight loss program formulated by using mid and far infrared wavelengths.
Research Studies
Research and Development has been conducted around the different wavelengths of the infrared spectrum. It has shown that different wavelengths can assist with physiological responses for potential wellness outcomes.
1) 2009 Study - Infrared saunas helped lower weight and waist circumference. This was over a three-month period¹. The theme among subjects in the study was that far infrared sauna use was like moderate exercise. They claimed it was "much more relaxing”.
2) Weight loss information was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.²
3) During a sauna weight loss session, core temperatures increase. The body has to work hard to cool itself, causing a healthy sweat. Using an infrared sauna increases heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate. This helps burn more calories.³
Athletes and fitness competitors use saunas to manage weight
Infrared saunas have been beneficial for many athletes. A regular visitor to the South Melbourne Wellness Rooms is bodybuilding competitor Richie Milne. He used infrared saunas as part of his preparation for the Natural Olympia in Las Vegas.
“What assisted me in dropping body fat were my regular infrared saunas at Sunlighten. This assisted in flushing out toxins, increased circulation and metabolism and burnt calories”.
He had a taxing journey down to a low body fat percentage. It is understandable that not everybody is looking for that extent of loss. But none the less, infrared saunas can help burn calories for everyday people.
Chloe Georgievski, has been using infrared saunas at our Wellness Rooms. Her goal is to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games for Taekwondo.
Infrared saunas are beneficial for helping achieve her competition weight. Her training regime can also lead to fatigue and muscle soreness. So saunas can help to rejuvenate and recover well.
