5 Tips For Designing Your Relaxation Room

Do you have plans to create a ‘Zen space’?

A dedicated room for relaxation can add tremendous value to your life. This type of room can be:

  • A place where you can heal and unwind
  • A place dedicated to physical and emotional wellbeing.

In this article, we give you our best tips for designing your own relaxation space for a home or business setting.
We have drawn on our experience in the design of our Wellness Rooms. To help you get started, we recommend the following:

1) Colours or Natural Lighting

If possible, some natural sunlight can add to the ambience and provide a sense of ease.

Try using soothing colours as these can influence our moods and emotions.

There are no set rules for colours, but our recommendations include:

  • Green: Tranquillity and Health
  • Grey or Lavender: For relaxation and releasing nervous tension
  • Orange: For a sense of excitement. Can be useful for energy if you are using this room to perform yoga exercises
  • Yellow: In Chromotherapy, yellow is said to help nerves and purify the body.

Of course, the room needs to feel right for you. Trust your intuition and choose colours that make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

2) Minimal Design

Your relaxation room is a place to recharge before or after the demands of a busy day. When visiting, you want your mind to feel free and uncluttered.

Thus, we recommend you keep the room spacious, clutter free and non-claustrophobic.

The benefits of a minimal decor can elicit a sense of clarity and peace. It is also easier to maintain.

Ask yourself: Will it bring a sense of contentment? Will you or your customers feel excited to visit this space?

3) Aromatherapy & Scents

Using soothing scents can add a sense of peace and serenity.

There are various options. You can burn candles, incense, heating oils or use essential oils from plants.

Aromatic scents add to the ambience of the room. Experiment with what you enjoy and find calming. If you are a business, experiment with the scents to find which resonate best with your clients.

4) Sauna

We are biased. But we genuinely believe an infrared sauna to be the centrepiece of any relaxation space.

An infrared sauna is effortless wellness. The beauty of having a sauna is that you can sit back, close your eyes and take some time out.

Our mPulse even has 6 pre-set wellness programs to personalise your experience. Choose from detoxification, weight loss, relaxation, anti-aging, pain relief or cardiovascular. These use a blend of infrared wavelengths precisely designed to assist your wellbeing. Learn more here.

5) Relaxation Music

Drown out all other distractions in your room. Maybe you’d prefer silence, a break away from the daily hustle or harmonic, soothing music (e.g. Forest Sounds or So Sound Acoustic Resonance Therapy).

We also recommend ‘Mood’ based playlists on Spotify. We really like the ‘Yoga & Meditation’ or ‘Relax & Unwind’ lists.
